PolyHIPE Battery Separators

Porous separators are one of the most critical parts in any kind of battery as recently turned out due to problems with the new Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phone. State of the art separators are in any case manufactured in a multistep process, often involving the use of compounds harmful or toxic to the environment and being energy intensive overall. Emulsion templating using the concept of high internal phase emulsions (HIPEs) provides a fast and easy way to produce in situ electrolyte filled separators which can be directly printed onto the electrode material prior to UV-curing.
